ABA Commission Releases Proposals to Revise Model Judicial Code to Guide Judges' Conduct, Assure Public Accountability

An independent, impartial judiciary is indispensable to the system of justice that has prevailed in the United States for more than 200 years. The ABA Joint Commission to Evaluate the Model Code of Judicial Conduct released its final report Oct. 31, proposing revisions to the code premised on adherence to judicial independence, integrity and impartiality as indispensable to preserving public trust in our judiciary and confidence in our legal system. The revision is intended to clarify and update guidance on conduct for judges and to assure the public that effective standards exist to regulate that conduct.
