William H. Neukom of Seattle accepted the gavel from Karen J. Mathis in a ceremony that was held during the House of Delegates session. Neukom's one-year term as ABA President began at the adjournment of the association's Annual Meeting in San Francisco.

The word from the governing body of the nation's largest lawyer’s organization is that the appointment, retention and replacement of the government prosecutors, along with their professional judgment and discretion should be insulated from improper political considerations.
